Job Description

Overview
At KPMG in Canada, our people bring their unique perspectives to Canada's most important challenges. Here, you can build momentum that reaches beyond our business, develop skills for the future, and take ownership of your career with support at every stage. Join a firm where your career can make a difference.

KPMG's Banking & Capital Markets Management Consulting practice helps banks, credit unions, payment providers and fintechs design and implement business and technology change. We work across commercial and retail banking, payments and digital banking operations, from strategy and target-state design through requirements, process redesign, integration, testing, implementation, operational readiness and adoption.

As a Senior Consultant, you will own client deliverables and workstreams within payment modernization and transformation programs. You will combine payments domain knowledge with strong business analysis and technology fluency to translate business needs into implementable processes, requirements and solutions.

What you will do
  • Own analysis and delivery for payments workstreams, from current-state assessment and target-state design through implementation and readiness.
  • Analyze end-to-end payment lifecycles, including initiation, orchestration and routing, clearing and settlement, reconciliation, exceptions and operational controls.
  • Elicit and document business, functional, data and integration requirements; develop process flows, user stories, acceptance criteria, traceability and implementation artifacts.
  • Facilitate working sessions with payment operations, product, treasury, fraud, AML/sanctions, architecture, engineering, QA, risk and vendor teams.
  • Support payment platform and interface implementations, including message and data mapping, APIs, payment gateways, connectivity and integration across upstream and downstream systems.
  • Support SIT, UAT and end-to-end testing, defect triage, release readiness, cutover and post-implementation stabilization.
  • Manage day-to-day interactions with client stakeholders, proactively identify risks and issues, and drive decisions to keep delivery moving.
  • Contribute to proposals, practice assets, market insights and the development of junior team members.
What you bring to the role
  • 3-5+ years of relevant experience, including at least 2-3 years working directly in payments, payment technology or payment operations.
  • Direct experience in payments within a bank, payment provider, fintech, consulting firm, payment processor or related technology organization.
  • Strong understanding of the end-to-end payment lifecycle and practical experience in one or more areas such as wires, EFT/ACH, high-value payments, real-time payments, cross-border payments, commercial payments, cards or digital wallets.
  • Hands-on experience in business or functional analysis and in delivering technology-enabled change across the solution lifecycle.
  • Ability to translate complex operational and technical topics into clear requirements, process models and client-ready recommendations.
  • Working knowledge of systems integration, APIs, message formats, data flows and how banking applications interact across a payment ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a workstream and deliver high-quality outcomes with limited supervision in a complex, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management, facilitation, written communication and problem-solving skills.
Nice to have
  • Knowledge of ISO 20022, SWIFT, Payments Canada, Lynx, ACSS, RTR/real-time payment initiatives, Fedwire, SEPA, CHAPS or comparable payment schemes.
  • Experience with payment hubs, payment engines, treasury or cash-management platforms, host-to-host connectivity, APIs or payment orchestration.
  • Knowledge of payment controls, fraud, sanctions screening, AML, reconciliation, operational resilience and service management.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence, ServiceNow, SQL, Power BI or similar delivery and analysis tools.
  • Payments, treasury, business analysis, agile or project-management certification; French-English bilingual capability is an asset for client delivery in Quebec.
