Role Purpose

The Manager, Field Investigations leads a team of Field Investigators delivering high-quality, in-person investigative support across SIU and Fraud Operations. The role is accountable for people leadership, field investigation strategy, safety, referral quality, and investigative effectiveness, ensuring field activity materially strengthens fraud outcomes and defensibility.

Key Accountabilities

People Leadership & Capability
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Field Investigators, fostering strong investigative judgment, professionalism, and a safety-first culture.
  • Set clear expectations for field conduct, evidence quality, documentation standards, and actionable recommendations.
  • Provide regular coaching, performance feedback, and calibration to ensure consistency in investigative approach and outputs.
  • Support onboarding, skill progression, and adoption of new field tools, techniques, and investigative technologies.

Field Investigation Strategy & Oversight
  • Act as the primary gatekeeper for field referrals, ensuring work assigned is appropriate, clearly scoped, and aligned to a defined business need.
  • Balance investigator capacity, geography, risk, urgency, and complexity to prioritize field work effectively.
  • Determine when investigations should be completed internally versus referred to external vendors based on safety, complexity, or location.
  • Ensure field investigations deliver incremental value beyond desk-based reviews and are not duplicative.

Safety, Risk & Compliance
  • Maintain staff safety as the top priority, enforcing requirements for background checks, OSINT reviews, and risk assessments prior to field engagement.
  • Approve, decline, or redirect field work where safety, consent, readiness, or investigative value is insufficient.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, legal requirements, and documentation standards within case management systems.

Investigative Quality & Business Impact
  • Hold the team accountable for producing clear, concise, and defensible field summaries that articulate findings, risks, and recommended next steps.
  • Review and challenge investigative outputs to ensure conclusions are evidence-based and aligned to fraud indicators.
  • Partner with SIU leaders and desk investigators to close investigative gaps identified through field activity.
  • Identify emerging trends observed in the field (e.g., recurring entities, schemes, or behaviors) and feed insights back into fraud strategy, detection, and prevention efforts.

Stakeholder & Partner Engagement
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for field investigation matters with SIU leadership, legal partners, vendors, and external agencies.
  • Influence upstream referral quality by educating partners on when and how to engage the Field Investigation team effectively.
  • Represent the Field team in operational forums, sharing insights, risks, and continuous improvement opportunities.

Core Skills & Experience

Leadership & Judgment
  • Proven experience leading investigative or operational teams within fraud, claims, or law enforcement environments.
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to balance investigative value, cost, risk, and safety.

Investigative Expertise
  • Deep understanding of field investigation techniques, including statements, canvassing, vehicle and property inspections, and third-party validation.
  • Ability to assess investigative readiness and translate field findings into clear, business-relevant outcomes.

Communication & Influence
  • Strong communicator able to challenge constructively, influence partners, and clearly articulate investigative findings.
  • Excellent written documentation and storytelling skills to support defensible fraud decisions.

Value the Role Delivers
  • Ensures field investigations are targeted, safe, and outcome-driven rather than activity-based.
  • Elevates the quality, consistency, and defensibility of on-the-ground evidence used in fraud decision-making.
  • Acts as a strategic bridge between desk investigations and real-world validation, strengthening fraud prevention, detection, and consequence management.

Requirements
  • Minimum of 7+ years relevant experience in insurance claims or field investigations.
  • Industry accreditation and ongoing training preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of leadership experience
  • Act as a brand ambassador for the business area and the bank, both internally and externally.
