The Specialist will support lending decisions and processes relative to Government sponsored loan programs. The Specialist ensures that program requirements and BMO Policies and Procedures are followed. In doing so, the Specialist delivers an exceptional customer experience while mitigating operational risk associated with non-compliance of the applicable program. The mandate will have a primary focus on the Canadian Small Business Financing Program (CSBFP) with additional opportunities to support other government programs as applicable (eg. Export Development of Canada (EDC) programs).
- Provides advice and guidance to account management on the execution of government program supported loans.
- Supports the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders (eg, Industry, Science & Economic Development Canada (ISED)).
- Exhibits a strong understanding of government guidelines, BMO policy and procedures to set up deal structure with mandatory elements such as securitization, loan structure, loan repayment etc.
- Partners with internal stakeholders for accurate, detailed client information.
- Assists with validating invoices and documentation that support the CSBF Program
- Proficient in reviewing financial statements, Purchase and Sale Agreements, Appraisals, with a reasonable knowledge of business and accounting principals
- Participate with Account Management as needed, in customer conversations in support of invoice validation, document prep and enhanced due diligence activities.
- Minimizes BMO's risk exposure by adhering to internal credit policies and procedures with respect to lending decisions.
- Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
- Exercises judgment to identify, diagnose, and solve problems within given rules.
- Supports the manager by coordinating and managing workflow and exception requests; escalates any concerns.
- Executes work to deliver timely, accurate, and efficient service.
- Proactively identifies opportunities to provide value-added learning and process improvements that meet client needs and expands the government sponsored loan portfolio.
- Works independently on a range of complex tasks, which may include unique situations.
- Provides input into the planning and implementation of operational programs.
- Focus is primarily on business/group within BMO; may have broader, enterprise-wide focus.
Qualifications: - Typically between 4 - 6 years of relevant experience, degree in Business or a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Credit Qualifications and associated credit knowledge and skills according to the established qualification standards.
- Working knowledge of government loan programs.
- Working knowledge of credit portfolio management Policies, Standards, Level 3 Documents and procedures.
- Knowledge of standard desktop applications (eg. Excel) and department systems and applications (BBX, Business Connect) - in-depth.
- Effective communications and relationship management skills.
- Strong ability to manage multiple priorities with effective planning and organizing skills.
- Sound judgement, logic, and reasoning.
- Technical proficiency gained through education and/or business experience.
