Our team is responsible for the capacity planning and engineering of TELUS' wireless network driving yearly investment of several hundred million dollars. This includes a broad range of planning and engineering activities, from projects that guide executive strategy to implementing network augments that support customer traffic at special events (e.g. New Year's Eve celebrations).

As a RAN Capacity Data Scientist, you will provide leadership to ensure we efficiently forecast and deploy network capacity to meet the increasing demand for wireless service. Your efforts will ensure that our millions of customers are able to enjoy a world class wireless network experience. Your creativity coupled with strong data and computer science experience will allow us to find the best ways of building our wireless network to support existing mobility services and offer new services.

•By applying your data science and your wireless technology knowledge to develop novel techniques to simulate wireless capacity, including developing models for 5G and Internet of Things (IoT) technologies
•By applying your software development skills to automate complex wireless network models to run simulations and create multi-year capacity plans
•By applying your data analytics skills in order to perform proof of concepts/prototyping and gain insights from the data via machine learning, computational statistical analysis, etc
•By applying your data presentation skills in order to make insights available in meaningful ways to key stakeholders via API, Tableau, web apps, etc
•By collaborating with other teams like Technology Strategy and Product Development to understand new technologies and services to prepare our team to succeed in an evolving business environment
•By leady the implementation of wireless capacity augments, you will build working processes with performance and construction teams to drive improvements in customer experience
•By developing dashboards and data visualizations you will provide insight into network capacity that can be shared with executives, peer groups and tools that are implemented in customer portals
•By monitoring network performance and using machine learning techniques, you will identify actual and predict future capacity issues in the network
•By providing expertise in data science best practices, insights & guidelines to promote sustainable innovation; keep up-to-date with data science and wireless technologies Qualifications:You're the missing piece of the puzzle
•Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Engineering
•3+ years of software development experience
•Strong problem solving, analytical and mathematical skills
•Passion for automation, data science and machine learning
•In-depth experience with database design and development: MySQL, NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB), Splunk and Hadoop
•Experience with Python and the following libraries: Pandas, Numpy, Scikit-learn
•Some experience with machine learning techniques such as: Time Series Prediction, Random Forest, Gradient Boosting and Deep Learning
•Basic understanding of GIS technology (e.g. MapInfo, ArcGIS)
•Knowledge in 3GPP technologies (5G/LTE/UMTS/HSPA), radio access network design, optimization and capacity engineering Great-to-haves
•Master degree or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering
•2+ years of experience in the telecommunications industry for basic understanding of wireless technologies
•Experience with one of the following Deep Learning frameworks: Pytorch, Keras, TensorFlow
•Experience with data analytic and visualization tools such as: Tableau, Alteryx, Splunk
